Neck pain is a common condition that can be caused by a variety of methods. Some of the most common contributors include improper lifting techniques, an injury/trauma to the spine, poor postural habits, frequent cellular texting, working on a computer and osteoarthritis. Common symptoms of neck pain include generalized stiffness, achiness, numbness and tingling in the hands, shooting pain in the arms, and pressure headaches. Chiropractic techniques offer a gentle solution to help alleviate the discomfort of neck pain. There are two main types of chiropractic therapy used to treat neck pain.

Cervical Spine Mobilization

Spinal adjustments are applied to specific vertebrae of the spine which are no longer in their proper position or where functioning has become impaired. Chiropractors are extensively trained to skillfully detect and correct the misaligned vertebrae. The adjustment is delivered using the hands or by the assistance of a specialized mechanical instrument. For this type of treatment, the chiropractor gently manipulates the cervical vertebrae by applying a light thrust to the immobile/fixed joints. The aim is to remobilize areas where motion is restricted between the vertebrae of the cervical spine.

Cervical Manual Traction

Cervical traction is used to help separate the bones, discs, and joints in your neck. It is performed by applying a light axial distraction or pull of the neck in the desired upwards direction. The patient should feel a gentle pulling/stretching sensation in the neck. There should be no pain, and may help decrease pressure on spinal nerves and reduce neck pain.
